Get Your Teach On Dallas {Recap}

Last week, I went to an amazing teacher conference in Forney, Texas. I learned SO MUCH. I saw immediately where I could have filled in several of the gaps I had during my first year. But, gotta keep moving forward, right? I'm going to jump right into sharing some photos to highlight my mini trip!

I decided to go ahead and make the looooong drive from Fort Worth to Dallas (about an hour from my apartment, yikes!) the day before the conference. I stayed at the NYLO hotel in South Dallas, and it was a fabulous experience! Highly recommend! I valet parked there once for a concert, and knew that one day I wanted to be able to stay there, and the time finally came. This hotel was about a twenty minute drive from the church where the conference was held. Their food was incredible! Below is the steak frites, which was AWESOME.
During our Math session with Amy Lemons (!!!), we used these handy little eye on a stick tools to close read our word problems. I already have a set made for when I'm doing my Social Studies comprehension reads this next year! Such a simple idea, and so easy to make!
At the end of Day One, I had a massive headache. I knew I needed to eat. Where else to go but the fabulous hotel restaurant? Ordered this yummy burger and took it straight up to my room and chowed down! Can you tell I don't get the chance to stay in hotels much?
I made this next photo HUGE so that you can see each individual picture in my BINGO card for Get Your Teach On! I didn't win a prize, but it was still fun trying to get all of the photos together:
1) A picture of something in our bags - I just went for the pen. I always go for the pens.
2) A picture of the GYTO cookie - this thing was delicious!!
3) A picture with a presenter. Amy Lemons. THE Amy Lemons (!!!).
4) A picture of something you made at the conference - I love this backpack idea and I am trying to find a way to use this with my third graders!
5) A picture during your favorite session - The Neon Read On was SO fun!!
6) A picture of a sponsor logo - Major SHOUTOUT to ETA Hand 2 Mind for providing all of us with FREE math manipulatives (I don't even teach math, but I know I eventually will!).
7) A picture with a new friend - This lovely lady actually happens to teach in the same city that I do, AND with someone I know! Small world, right?!
8) A selfie in your GYTO shirt. Guys, I was so lucky when I got this shirt. The line was starting to get long, and Hope King's mom asked if anybody was paying with cash - luckily, I had exact change  for this shirt. I got to skip the line! #goals
9) A picture of something you want to recreate with your students - I love this PSA folder idea from Amy Lemons. If I ever get to teach math, I am totally making this with my kiddos.
For my last night in the hotel, I ordered Asian chicken wings. AMAZING fresh, not so good the next day. Oh well!

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!

It's Almost Over....

My first year in Kindergarten is coming to a close. As I prepare to shut my classroom down for the summer, I am reflecting on the year. It was such a whirlwind, to say the least. I feel like I never really got a chance to stop and really breathe before I had to hit the ground running again and again. Those sweet kindergarteners have taught me so much about myself as a person and as a teacher. We have laughed together, cried together, but most important of all, we have learned together. I never imagined I would love teaching a grade so much, but I truly do. Kindergarten is my place. Don't get me wrong, this job is HARD. It is so hard, but it is also so very rewarding. I spend a year molding children who have little to no school experience into students who love learning and drink whatever knowledge you pour into them. They love to read, they're excited about math, and they come in everyday ready to see what we're going to learn next. I LOVE this job! As I make my end of ...

Upcoming Book Studies!!

Hello dear friends! I have not posted in FOREVER!!! Life has been crazy busy and I finally feel like I can breathe a little. I am at the point where I am already making changes in my classroom for next year and reflecting on my teaching to improve for my next group of kiddos. I saw a post somewhere that really resonated with my feelings - this is the perfect time to try something new with kids you already know and since it's new for them, it helps with your classroom management to mix things up a little! I am finally taking time to actually read through two books that have been sitting around my apartment, BEGGING to be opened and for more time to be spent reading instead of skimming! Both are by the amazing Debbie Diller! I am still waiting to get my hands on her Math Workstations book, and will do another book study on that one! For now, I am going to end this post with the chapter breakdown. I will start with Spaces and Places so that I can figure out any changes BEFORE this...
